I know what is blog by reading this book around 2004 (WordPress is version 1.2) , but I’m not interested in it enough to have one. I prefer to non-blog CMS at that time and just too busy with my life to open new website.
In early 2007, I started jumping into the blogging world. I read more and more blogs, commented here and there.
Then I was too rush to open my blog in April 2007 with free subdomain and hosting. Not long after that, my free host had a problem so I had to temporarily shut down my blog.
I was realized that I was not ready to open my blog yet.
I planned to get more understanding of things before open it next time.
These are the list of new things I got/learned from blogging world, in no particular order.
- I learned about Web 2.0, social media. Before that, I was like, “huh? What’s Web 2.0?” ![]()
- I started using feed reader.
- I learned basic SEO
- I learned about meta-blogging.
- I discovered many new web dsign resources.
- I have a chance to happily practise my English listening skill by watching/listening to video/podcast without any subtitle.
- It’s the first time I paid for domain name and hosting.
- I learned how to spend money online via PayPal.
- I learned basic about domain name registration, transfering, domain status etc.
- I learned how to use svn and git to download script to my PC. (but still learning and being confused about how to directly download script to host.)
- I meet new people who have the liked-mind and share some interests via blogging.
I also enjoy participating in blog contests. Most of the contests I joined are basically required commenting and based on luck. This is the first time I wrote a full blog post to join the contests (but still based on luck lol)
If you’re obsessed to blog, visit Blogsessive.com to get free domain giveaway before 24:00 31 May 2008 (EST).
Last but not least, if you have something to say/share, just start blogging, and you will get many things in return.
Hosted Blogging Services I recommend
-WordPress.com
-Exteen.com: Warm blogging community aiming for Thai people.
-Tumblr.com: For tumblelogs, but it can be used for conventional blogs as well
(I just don’t like blogspot because there’re so many Made-For-Ads/Spam blogs, hard to navigate, hard to comment, imho.)
